Doughboy Pools Reviews – Ex Massachusetts Pool Dealer

No Longer Members Of The Doughboy Pools Family As Of 2016

Doughboy is one of the oldest names in the above ground swimming pool market. They manufacture most things themselves right here in the United States from raw materials. They design and manufacture strong and versatile pools.

Unfortunately, our relationship was doomed from the beginning. Not only are their pools over priced, but it cost $0.75 cents per pound to ship their pools from Arizona. My manufacturer is much closer, and so shipping pools cost hundreds less for me.

Last year I found a company that makes pools just as good, and in many cases better. As a result, I did not sell any of their pools last year, and Doughboy dropped me as a dealer. They never told me they did, but I see I am not listed in their dealer registry any longer.

Unique Doughboy Above Ground Pool Features

THERE IS NO LONGER A PICTURE HERE. I HAVE BEEN ASKED TO STOP USING THEIR TRADEMARK. SO THERE IS NO POINT TELLING YOU WHAT I USED TO LIKE ABOUT THE FEATURE IN THE PICTURE THAT NO LONGER EXISTS. HA

Doughboy Pool Liners

THIS IS MY OPINION: Let me say first that we install 100’s of liners every year. We install them when we build pools, and we also install replacement liners. We do business with 4 different liner manufacturers and know the industry.

Though Doughboy pool liners are good, they are a pain in the rear to install. I got my first ever bad seam and had to replace the liner at my cost. The way they fold them makes it a nightmare to get the packing wrinkles out. However, they are of good quality.

With great local liner manufacturers, it makes no sense to ship theirs across the county.

Low Boy and Embassy Pools

I had the misfortune to promote and sell a century package of theirs, which at first glance looked like a good idea. But when customer started calling and asking where the missing parts were, I didn’t know what they were talking about. I called Doughboy and reported that my cistomers were all missing the skirts that help to support the top rail. They told me that they were not included in the promotional version of the century pool. I had to buy the myself and pay to ship them myself.

I never heard of selling a pool without all the parts???

Doughboy Shipping And order Fulfillment

One of the coolest features are their walk in step. The first Doughboy pool I sold back in March of 2014 included a set of the steps. Not only do they not make them, they held up an order, delaying the shipment over a month past the date I promised to install the pool. That customer was the first to issue me a cease and desist letter, and the only person I might add.

That customer owed me over 3 thousand dollars for what I delivered and the work I had done up to that point, and I chose to eat it. It wasn’t the customers fault. How could I know Doughboy had no steps. Suppliers do run out of stuff as the pool season goes on, but the season had hardly even begun. Then I learned they don’t even make the step themselves.

Conclusion

I don’t have all bad things to say about Doughboy. Their two best pools, the Saratoga, and the Tuscany are really strong pools. There Embassy decks are the finest pre-manufactured decks I have ever seen.
