There are only a couple programmable timers worth mentioning. By using an automatic electronic control switch, you will never forget to turn on or off your swimming pool pump.
When people think about pool maintenance, they think about balancing chemicals, skimming the surface of the pool, backwashing, and vacuuming. But a pool needs to be turned on and off every day.
These timers both have an internal clock and are programmed with trip switches that control power to whatever you connect.
Intermatic P1131 Heavy Duty Timer
The timer pictured above is made to be outdoors and is primarily used for above ground pools. No electrician is required for this unit. This timer gets it’s power when plugged in. This model comes with both a standard plug and twist lock.
The Intermatic P1131 is ideal for 3/4 and 1 HP above ground pool motors, and even 3/4 HP inground pool motors. For larger pumps like 1.5 HP and up, you will want to purchase and install a bigger unit. The cheapest place to purchase this unit is on Amazon.
220 Volt Intermatic Indoor Outdoor Inground Timer
This timer on the left has been the staple of the swimming pool industry for the past 20 years. If your inground pool has a timer, it probably looks like this one and is located next to your circuit breaker panel.
These are hard-wired, meaning it has no plug and needs to be installed by a licensed electrician. There are several models, some for indoors, and some for outdoors. This unit is cheapest on Amazon and is available here.
