Pool pump humming is usually do to the pump motor seizing up. It can often be repaired with a quick service visit. This condition usually occurs over the winter, you go to turn it on in the spring, and the motor hums, but then shuts off, or pops a fuse breaker.
The old one speed pump motors are not sealed from the elements, like with the new variable speed pump motors. So a little rust builds up on the armature, seizing it to the brushes. Once this is freed up, the motor will go on working, sometimes for years.
Pool Pump Motor Repair Or Replace Cost
Until the season begins (4/15) for us up here in Massachusetts, our service fee is just $80.00, and $80 an hour after that. During the pool season we charge $150.00 for a service visit. We are usually done within the hour on humming pump motors, and pump motor replacements.
Pump motor replacements, during the pool season, accompanied with resealing and rebuilding the pump, usually cost $485.00. You may opt to buy your own motor, or new pump your self, and have us install it.
However, if there is a warranty issue with parts you purchased, we have to charge for additional labor. If we supply the parts, you will have a grace period. So on the rare occasion, you buy a dud, or the wrong parts, you will be stuck with a bill for our time, or service visit (not so with parts we supply).
Pump and Equipment Upgrade
If you were thinking about upgrading to a variable speed pump, or upgrading your plumbing and filter, now would be the best time to contact us. We are being offered incentives from electric companies, and we are sharing the wealth with you.
How would you like to get a new inground variable speed pump installed for $650.00 + tax. You can look up the cost of a Pentair 342001 on amazon, and it is over $750.00. We are providing the pump, and installing it for $650.00 + tax in most cases.
We are waving the service visit fee, and installation labor. If your system requires a new manifold to be plumbed in, or a new valve to be installed, that would be extra. Most plum in no problem.
